The tradition of Jack-o’-lanterns comes from an Irish folktale about a man named Stingy Jack who tricked the Devil. When he died, Jack was neither accepted into heaven nor hell and was left to roam the Earth. People began carving scary faces on vegetables like turnips and later pumpkins to ward off evil spirits like Jack.

You can use your imagination to carve a pumpkin and add some candles inside to give it a scary look. These are available in any grocery stores nearby or local farmer markets.

• Spider Webs:

Inside homes, spider webs are a classic choice for Halloween decor. Faux spider webs are widely available in stores and can be draped over furniture, mantels, windows and doorways to give your living space a spooky makeover and creepy touch. You can also lay it over the garden or pathways to your door to scare the people.

• Creepy Candles:

Drip red candle wax over white pillar candles for a blood-dripped effect.

They are often made from lightweight, semi-translucent materials like cloth, cheesecloth, or gauze, which allow them to blow in the wind and create a ghostly, floating effect. It can be easily store-bought or you can create it as well. Just drape some white fabric over the balloons and secure them with a string. Add black marker eyes for a spooky effect.

They can be easily found at any party supply store, dollar store, or Amazon or you can create your own. Measure and cut a large semi-circle shape from the black poster board. This will be the brim of the hat. Roll the black poster board into a cone shape to form the top of the hat. Apply glue or tape to the bottom edge of the cone. Center the cone on the flat side of the semi-circle (brim) and attach it securely.

You can glue on fake spiders, draw spiderwebs, or use fake cobwebs to make the hat look more spooky.

• Witch’s Broom:

Attach a bundle of twigs to the end of a broomstick for a witchy decoration.

Or create it like this: You need twigs, a wooden stick, or a broomstick for it. You can find twigs or straw at a craft store or any farm where you go for a pumpkin patch and the wooden stick can be a dowel, an old broomstick, or even a fallen tree branch. Take a handful of twigs or straws and arrange them so that the ends are even. This will be the broom’s bristles. You can choose the length of the bristles based on your preference.

Place the arranged twigs or straw against the bottom end of the wooden stick or dowel. Ensure the bristles are facing downward. You might want to use a bit of craft glue to secure them in place.

Using twine or strong string, tie it tightly around the top of the bristles and the wooden stick. This will hold the bristles firmly in place.

The simplest way I do this trick is: I place pebble stones of various colors inside the jar, keep my battery candle inside place it in a dark place, and switch it on in the dark.

To make it spookier, use decorative plastic snakes, spiders, spider webs and other spooky creatures, and arrange them on the glass in a way that looks like they’re crawling all over it. You can use hot glue to secure them in place.

Cut out bat shapes from black paper or cardboard (paint it in black) and hang them in your windows or from the ceiling or stick them to the window panes.
